Cibelle
Glossop Town Hall,
High Street West, Glossop
£8 in advance, £10 on the door |

Cibelle (pronounced
"See-bell-ee") is one of the most seductively original artists to
emerge from the Brazilian scene. Singer, composer, poet, video
artist... Cibelle is chameleon-like in her ability to change her
music's subtle directions as well as her appearance.
She first came to attention as the main vocalist on the cult São Paulo Confessions
album. Her self-titled debut was released in 2003, and immediately
established her as one of the most imaginative young artists to come
out of Brazil.
Mor Karbasi is a virtuoso
singer, songwriter, composer and arranger. She performs a wide variety
of special musical styles. One of her main projects is Ladino music,
also known as Judezmo, Spaniolit, or Sephardic - the ancient language
and music of the exiled Jews of Spain.
Mor's heritage is mixed
Moroccan and Persian, according to her Moroccan grandfather, "the blood
remembers" meaning that before this, the ancestors came from Spain. Her
connection to this culture is expressed passionately through her music.

The Seckou Keita Quartet
brings together the best of Afro-Mandinka Soul music. It reflects the
many stages of Seckou Keita's musical journey in an ensemble blending
European and African instruments and influences. The quartet made its
debut in 2004 under the title Acoustic Vibes, and in 2005 played the
London Jazz Festival and all over the UK as part of the Heatwave tour.
They have impressed audiences at Montreal Jazz Festival and various
other festivals in Canada.
Their first album Afro Mandinka Soul... Tama Silo
has just been released. Drawing together musicians from Senegal, Italy,
Egypt and The Gambia, the varied approaches within the Seckou Keita
Quartet superbly complement one another.
