"My
Collages are Rubbish"
A Positive Perspective on Waste
All
my collages have been made up from waste materials,
particularly from the industrial waste in the electronics
industry in which I am involved.
For
me personally art and design is a journey; an expedition
through life. I prefer art to 'happen' or evolve,
rather than be contrived, or engineered, which is
why abstract expressionism works for me.

Form
and colour play a particular part in art, and whilst working
I became inspired by some of the shape and colours of
the materials I was using. The geometric shapes left by
the depressed circuits, and the different blues and browns
of the laminates and covercoates lent themselves beautifully
to forms indicative of Art Deco in particular.
One day I was suddenly aware of the attractive patterns
impressed into the 'Vybak' (grey PVC board) I was using,
and considered how it might look when painted over. Using
enamels, acrylic and black ink, the result was quite successful.

Victoria
Harrison was born in Prestbury in Cheshire, and lived
and was educated in central Manchester. She trained
at Ashton Schol of Art for two years, and went on
to be a designer / layout artist with HMSO (Civil

After
the birth of her son, she moved into electronics and
applied her steady hand and eye for detail to electronic
devices, until moving back into education to take
a combined Hons degree in the History of Art and English
Literature.

She
later went back into electronics where she was inspired
and captivated by the materials she was using, which
led to the industrial collages on exhibition.
She
displayed and sold work whilst living in Cornwall for
four years, and has recently been a member of and exhibited
with the Brighton Artists Group.
She
is now living and working in Glossop and exhibiting
in the local area.
